Tips for buying clothes internationally
- Sizes vary significantly by brand — always check the specific brand's size guide
- European sizes are based on body measurements in cm
- Italian sizing often runs small compared to US/UK equivalents
- When shopping online, prioritise chest/waist/hip measurements over letter sizes

Why Clothing Sizes Vary So Much
There is no international standard for clothing sizes. A US size 8 dress corresponds roughly to a UK size 12, an EU size 38, and an Italian size 42. Size inflation ("vanity sizing") means a US size 10 today is several inches larger than a US size 10 from 30 years ago. When shopping internationally, always look up body measurements (chest, waist, hip in cm or inches) rather than relying on nominal size numbers.
